Highland Bred and Born

So if I was tae tell ye I sprung frae fairies, ye'd nae believe me, but me Da was the nearest thing ye'd find.  He was a kind and loving sort, wi' a quick wit and a quicker sword.  He taught me tae love life and grab all I could frae it.  I met Angus whilst I lived on the farm awa north.  We did nae have a large spread, but it was ample tae be sure.  If I'd have ken'd I'd be spending the rest o' me life with Angus, I'd have thought it through a bit, that's a wee joke.  I'd nae have any other man and he ken's it.  I love the simple things o' life, a wee garden, a leisurely stroll wi' me love, that sort o' thing.  Our lives kicked up a notch when the folk frae the sky turned up.

Teaching and Loving The Folk From the Sky

I remember well the first night I met the lass.  It was late as I recall, almost past our bedtime.  It's lucky we were awake, as she'd nae have found the house otherwise.  We always kept a lantern burning in the front window.  I suppose it was a silly old tradition.  Ya see, I was wi' child long ago.  I gave birth tae me wee bairn and she was the love o' our lives.  Unfortunately, she took ill o' the water on the lung.  We tended her the best we could, but I guess she was just nae fer this world.

When she passed, it nigh killed us both.  It took some time tae come back from it.  I guess I kept the lamp on in hopes the fairies would somehow bring her back tae us, I told ye it was silly.  O' course, it never happened but it did give us a measure o' hope in our darkest time.  I still keep up that tradition, mostly on account of that it helps me tae keep me wee bairn close tae me heart.  Angus teases me about it sometimes, but I think he secretly... Ach, listen tae me ramble on.  Back tae the tale.  So it was late when she, well... Neala as we came tae learn later, came knocking.  I answered the door and found her in a heap at the doorstep.  I helped her tae bed and she came around in a few days.  I thought we'd nearly lost her.

I still remember how queer her language was.  I decided tae use me natural talent fer teaching tae learn her our language.  I was nae prepared fer how fast she would catch on.  My, it seemed in less then a fortnight she was forming complete sentences.  She became right good at it too.  It was nice.  She tried tae teach me her tongue but that did nae go quite as well.  However, I did learn some and am proud tae say I can understand quite a bit the noo.  Well, ye'll just have tae read about it all, it's quite a long story.  I have tae go now, so cheery bye the noo.
